Sale of Standards

As directed by the Standards Act of 1991 the Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards is the only organisation in Saint Lucia mandated with the development and sale of Standards. It is the National Standards Body of Saint Lucia.

Barcode Generation

This service involves the generation of barcodes using International Guidelines (GS1) and uses the EAN/UPC symbology which is the most recognizable family of barcodes in the GS1 System. It was developed in collaboration with The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Production, Fisheries and Rural Development  as part of an agro-processing development project funded under the European Union’s (EU) Special Framework of Assistance  for 2006 (SFA 2006) through the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO).

The Certificate of Free Sale provides testimony that the sale of a particular product is not in contravention of the Standards Act and Regulations and other National Legislation.

This is a process certification programme which gives the assurance that the food product is produced under safe and hygienic conditions. It targets food handlers and food processors offering food for sale. Issuance of certificates under this programme involves an assessment of the production plant, the place of preparation or the farm against the relevant National Codes of Practice or National Standards.

Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards Label Assessment Programme The Label Assessment Programme is based on requirements of mandatory standards SLNS Pt. 1:1993 Labelling of Commodities – General Requirements, SLNS 18 Pt. 2: 1993 Labelling of Commodities – Pre-packaged Goods and SLNS 18 Pt. 3 :1993 Labelling of Commodities – Pre-packaged foods.  To ensure full compliance with the labelling regulations the Compliance Department of the Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards offers an assessment service which examines your labels for accuracy and efficiency.

Pattern Approval

The SLBS Product Certification Programme provides the foundation for granting a license to use the national mark of conformity known as the Saint Lucia Standard Mark. The Saint Lucia Standard Mark on a product is a quality seal indication that the product complies with regionally and internationally accepted National Standards, and that the supplier maintains an efficient and appropriate quality management system.
