Evaluation of New Work Item Proposal for Livestock Feed
The Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards [SLBS] is mandated to develop, promote and implement
standards in Saint Lucia with the aim of protecting the environment and the health and safety of
consumers as well as the promotion of industrial efficiency and national development. SLBS has
received a request to develop a standard for Livestock Feed in Saint Lucia.
This proposal is aimed at the development of comprehensive feed standards for livestock species,
specifically swine, small ruminants (goats and sheep), cattle (both beef and dairy), and rabbits.
The proposed standard will define essential nutrient profiles, feed ingredient quality benchmarks,
allowable additives and supplements, feed labeling guidelines, and best practices for local
formulation and manufacturing.
As part of the process leading up to the development of standards, evaluation by stakeholders is
important to determine the priority and need based on social and economic interests. We therefore
seek your co-operation and expertise in providing input in this regard, through the evaluation of
the proposal.
The objectives of this consultative process of evaluation will be to:
1. Provide stakeholders with the new work item proposal and background information on the
rationale for proposed development;
2. Evaluate the proposal received based on expertise and experience of stakeholders;
3. Document stakeholders’ critical input to be taken into consideration for the development
of a standard for Livestock Feed; and
4. Generate a listing of interested stakeholders to serve on a working group responsible for
development.
We invite you to review the attached proposal along with the SLBS Justification and Evaluation Form.
