SLBS Metrology Laboratory Achieves ISO/IEC 17025:2017 Accreditation

The Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards (SLBS) is pleased to announce that its Metrology Laboratory has been awarded accreditation to the ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standard, following an initial onsite assessment of the Laboratory at its new location at the National Agricultural Diagnostic Facility (NADF). The accreditation was granted on 17 June 2026 following an initial onsite assessment of the Metrology Laboratory under JANAAC Global Accreditation No. SLBOS092/LA/2026/CERT09.

The accreditation demonstrates that the Metrology Laboratory has been assessed against internationally recognized requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories. Under the accreditation the SLBS Metrology Laboratory is recognized for the calibration of:

  • OIML class F2 weights ranging from 1 mg to 200 g
  • 20 L test measures

These services play an important role in ensuring accuracy and measurement traceability across various commercial activities in Saint Lucia. This in turn contributes to a reputation in trade which can be trusted by consumers and external markets.

The calibration of 20 L test measures provides measurement traceability to support the verification of fuel dispensers, while the calibration of weights supports the verification of weighing instruments.

This means businesses and other users of measurement equipment can have greater confidence that the equipment used in commercial transactions is operating against accurate and traceable measurements.

A Milestone for the Metrology Laboratory and NADF

The accreditation also represents an important milestone for the new location of the SLBS Metrology Laboratory at NADF.

β€œThe Metrology Laboratory of the Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards is the first laboratory at NADF to be awarded accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025 requirements.”

Supporting Confidence in Measurement

Metrology plays an essential role in ensuring that measurements used in everyday commerce are accurate and reliable. From fuel dispensers to weighing instruments, accurate measurements help protect consumers, support fair trade and contribute to confidence in business transactions.

Through its accredited Metrology Laboratory, the SLBS continues to strengthen Saint Lucia’s national quality infrastructure and provide services aligned with internationally recognized requirements.

The achievement of ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accreditation at the laboratory’s new location at NADF represents another step in the SLBS’s commitment to delivering competent, reliable and internationally recognized measurement services to its customers and stakeholders
