JOB SUMMARY
The Compliance Assistant plays a critical support role in the conformity assessment activities of the Bureau of Standards. This position involves assisting with inspections, testing, import monitoring and market surveillance to ensure products meet national, regional, and international standards. The assistant collects samples, supports product recalls, and assists in laboratory testing and complaint investigations. Additionally, the role requires maintaining accurate records, supporting audits, and ensuring compliance with quality manuals and standards. This role demands attention to detail, technical competence, and the ability to work under the guidance of senior officers.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Conformity Assessment Support Tasks
- Support the implementation. of conformity assessment activities, including inspections and testing.
- Collect samples for testing under the guidance of the Compliance Officer.
- Inspect goods as necessary under the supervision of the Compliance Officer or Head of Compliance.
- Assist in the testing of products in the SLBS laboratories based on relevant standards and technical documents.
- Assist in the inspection of pneumatic tyres.
- Review supporting documents and labels under the supervision of the Compliance Officer.
Market Surveillance and Recall Tasks
- Support the market surveillance program to ensure products on the local market meet pre-determined specifications.
- Assist in the recall of non-compliant and defective goods under the direction of the Head of Compliance or Compliance Officer.
Compliant Investigation and Technical Support Tasks:
- Respond to and assist in the investigation of complaints as required.
- Assist in assessing conformity in areas of technical competence.
- Support Compliance Officers in ensuring conformity assessment activities align with approved quality manuals work instructions and internationally accepted standards.
Audit and Corrective Action Tasks
- Comply with corrective actions following internal and external audits.
- Function as a Lead Internal Auditor as required based on ISO 72020.
Record-Keeping and Administrative Tasks
- Ensure client physical/electronic files and database records are consistent and up to date.
- Perform other related duties within the incumbent’s competence as assigned by the Head of Department or Director.
Customs-Related Tasks (When Stationed at Customs)
- Ensure the completion of the Import Inspection Document and all other documents related to the Compulsory Standards Compliance Program (CSCP).
- Practice proper verification processes for assessing the Import Inspection Document and supporting documents, including fee calculations.
- Perform related duties as required by the Head of Department or designate.

JOB SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
Education & Certification:
- A Level’s or Associate’s Degree with one science (e.g. Biology)
Professional Training:
Work Experience:
- Four (4) years’ working experience / exposure.
