The Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards in its role regulating and authenticating alternative packaging material as part of the Phase-Out of Styrofoam and other Single-Use Plastic Food Service Containers in Saint Lucia provides pre-approval services for qualifying packaging materials.

Applicants are required to provide the following information to permit assessment of their request:

  1. Evidence the packaging material is not harmful to the environment; that is, proof the material is biodegradable for example biodegradable certification
  2. Evidence the packaging material is not harmful to consumers; that is approved as a food contact surface – food contact certification
  3. The HS Code (The Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System, also known as the Harmonized System of tariff nomenclature is an internationally standardized system of names and numbers to classify traded products) for product in question. This will ensure unhindered clearance of your consignment
  4. Processing fee of $150 EC
